A total of 12,654 births were registered in Chile in March 2025 (50.6% male and 49.3% female), an 8.9% decrease compared to March 2024, according to the Current Vital Statistics Bulletin, which is published by the National Statistics Institute (INE).
By the mother’s age bracket, the greatest percentage of births in March 2025 was ages 30 to 34 years (30.1%, or 3,805 live births), which was followed by ages 25 to 29 years (25.4%, or 3,211 live births).
Marriages and Civil Union Agreements (CUAs)
The vital statistics for March 2025 show that of the total number of marriages (5,340) decreased 3.2% compared to March 2024. In contrast, the number of CUAs (1,578) increased 24.3% year on year. The vast majority of CUAs were of couples of different sexes (88.1%). The remaining CUAs were between men (5.7%) and between women (6.1%).
Deaths
In March 2025, 9,459 deaths were registered, of which 4,997 were of males (52.8%) and 4,461 were of females (47.2%). The total number of deaths in March 2025 decreased 3.5% year on year.
The majority of deaths occurred in persons aged 60 and over, with the greatest concentration of deaths in those aged 80 to 99 years (40.9%, or 3,867 deaths). The number of deaths of those aged under 1 year was 84, which is 0.9% of the total.
