In 1986, the National Statistics Institute (INE) published its first statistical yearbook on the environment. Since 2012, INE has transformed its environmental statistics into a structured and documented database that facilitates the use and updating of historical data.
Basic environmental variables are currently available either as time series according to dimension and logical-causal factor or as statistical tables from the Annual Environmental Report.
The index of production of electricity, gas, and water is a short-term index whose objective is to estimate the monthly evolution of the volume of productive activity of this sector. The structure of electricity, gas, and water is described in the Annual National Survey of Companies of Electric Power Generation, Transmission, and Distribution; the Annual National Survey of Gas Companies; and the Annual National Survey of Drinking Water Companies. These surveys are annual censuses that provide information on the production, sales, income from economic activity, purchase of supplies and raw materials, and employment and wages, among other topics.
