Mining

In its commitment to provide relevant and timely information, the National Statistics Institute (INE) publishes a series of products related to the mining sector:

• The Mining Production Index (Índice de Producción Minera, or IPMin) compiles information on medium-sized and large companies that are based in the country. Through the analysis of year-on-year and monthly variations, the IPMin provides an approximation of the short-term evolution of mining activity.
• The measurement of Copper Mining Inventories (Índice de Inventarios de la Minería del Cobre, or IIMCu) complements the analysis of the IPMin by providing a monthly estimate of the evolution of the level of inventories (valued at current prices in US dollars) of copper mining companies.
• The structure of the mining industry is observed through the Annual National Survey of Mining (Encuesta Nacional Anual de la Minería, or ENAM), an annual census that provides detailed information on different aspects of the sector.
