The National Statistics Institute (INE) is a technical and independent agency that is a legal entity under public law, and it is functionally decentralized with its own assets. INE is in charge of the official statistics and censuses of the Republic of Chile, and it performs these tasks through the production and dissemination of reliable, timely, accessible, and relevant information that is comparable at the national and international level. INE is related to the government through the Ministry of Economy, Development, and Reconstruction.
INE was officially created in 1843. Throughout its long history, it has conducted various censuses, surveys, and studies of the nation to assist public and private agents in making informed decisions.
