Births
In December 2025, 12,352 births (51.3% male and 48.7% female), were observed in the country, an increase of 1% year on year, according to the Vital Statistics Bulletin, which is published by the National Statistics Institute (INE).
According to the mother’s age bracket, the greatest percentage of births were to mothers aged 30 to 34 years (29.8% of the total, or 3,683 live births). Following was the bracket 25 to 29 years (24.7% of the total, or 3,046 live births).
Marriages and Civil Union Agreements
In December 2025, the number of Civil Union Agreements (CUAs) increased 34.1% year on year to stand at 1,742. The majority of CUAs were between couples of different sexes (90.8%), while 4.5% of the CUAs were between men and 4.8% were between women.
Vital Statistics of the period show that there were 5,741 marriages in December 2025, which is equivalent to a year-on-year increase of 5.7%.
Deaths
In December 2025, there were 10,001 deaths (51.7% of males and 48.3% of females), a year-on-year increase of 0.2%.
The majority of deaths were of people aged 60 and over, and they were concentrated in the age bracket 80 to 99 years (42.5% of the total, or 4,249 deaths). There were 76 deaths of children under the age of 1, which represents 0.8% of the total.
