As planned, INE will finish collection by its enumerators in 250 communes in the country by 30 June. In a decision shared with and supported by the 2024 Census Advisory Committee and CELADE, INE will continue with census field operations in July in ninety-five communes, which are mainly regional capitals and communes of the Metropolitan Region, until operations are all gradually completed.
The census has been progressing satisfactorily with more than seven million homes enumerated throughout the country to date and with around 4% of homes where people have not been able or have chosen not to answer the census at the time of the visit.
As planned, by 30 June, the National Statistics Institute will have completed enumeration in 250 of the country's communes. In a decision shared with the 2024 Census Advisory Committee and CELADE, INE will continue its field operations during the month of July in ninety-five communes, which are mainly regional capitals and communes of the Metropolitan Region, until operations are all gradually completed.
Between March and May of this year, around twenty-five thousand enumerators traveled throughout Chile, a number that fell to ten thousand in June. Beginning in July, the closing process will continue with a team of around four thousand enumerators in the communes with active field operations.
"We want to acknowledge and thank the great civic spirit of the people who have already been enumerated and the more than twenty-five thousand enumerators who were part of this national task. In the coming period, our goal is to reach all the people who have not yet been counted so that no one is left out. The Population and Housing Census brings us all together, and we are called to make this last effort", said INE's national director, Ricardo Vicuña Poblete.
The continuity of the field enumeration in ninety-five communes in the month of July was shared with and supported by the Census Advisory Committee and CELADE (see their descriptions below). In the opinion of both bodies, for the proper development of the census process, it is advisable to continue with enumeration in these communes in order to complete the population coverage required by this important statistical operation.
In July, INE will continue to visit homes in these communes, and the Census Points and the Census Phone Number 1525 will remain active to provide people who have not yet taken the census the opportunity to do so. All the information on the Online Census and the locations of the Census Points is available on the web page www.Censo2024.cl as is a list of the communes where field enumeration is being completed.
According to Law 17.374, the National Statistics Institute must maintain statistical secrecy, and it is thus forbidden from sharing with both public and private institutions any individual data of enumerated homes and persons.
