Marriages and Civil Union Agreements increased year on year in April 2026

In the same period, the number of births and deaths fell.

Births

There were 12,542 births registered in April 2026, 50.5% male and 49.5% female. This total represents a year-on-year decrease of 0.5%, according to the Vital Statistics Bulletin, which is published by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

According to the mother’s age bracket, the greatest percentage of births was to mothers aged 30 to 34 (28.8%, or 3,614 live births), which was followed by births to mothers aged 25 to 29 years (25.7%, or 3,224 live births).

Marriages and Civil Union Agreements (CUAs)

Vital statistics for April 2026 show 5,361 marriages in Chile, which is equivalent to an 18.4% increase compared to the same month in 2025.

The number of CUAs rose 2,366, a year-on-year increase of 39.3%. The majority of CUAs (89.8%) were of couples of different sexes, while CUAs between men accounted for 4.5% of CUAs and those between women for 5.7%.

Deaths

In April, 10,041 deaths were observed, 5,183 male (51.6%) and 4,858 female (48.4%). There were 140 fewer deaths than in the same month of the previous year, which represents a decrease of 1.4%.

The majority of deaths were of persons aged 60 and over, and these deaths were concentrated in the age bracket 80 to 99 years, which represented 42.4%, or 4,258 deaths. There were 77 deaths of children aged under one year, which accounts for 0.8% of total deaths of the period.
