The number of births increased 3.5% year on year in March 2026

In the same period, the number of marriages, Civil Union Agreements (CUAs), and deaths increased.

Births

According to the Vital Statistics Bulletin published by the National Statistics Institute (INE), there were 13,123 births in March 2026, a year-on-year increase of 3.5%. Of the total, 51.1% were male and 48.9% were female.

By the mother’s age bracket, the highest percentage of births was to mothers aged 30 to 34 (29.5%, or 3,865 live births), followed by births of mothers aged 25 to 29 years (25.2%, or 3,310 live births).

Marriages and Civil Union Agreements (CUAs)

Vital statistics for March 2026 show 6,441 marriages in Chile, which is equivalent to a 20.6% increase compared to the same month in 2025.

The number of CUAs rose to 2,494, which represents a year-on-year increase of 58%. The majority of CUAs (88.2%) were of opposite-sex couples, while CUAs between men accounted for 5.1% and those between women accounted for 6.7%.

Deaths

In the period of analysis, 9,896 deaths were observed, 5,207 males (52.6%) and 4,688 females (47.4%). There were 401 more deaths than in the same month of the previous year, which represents an increase of 4.2%.

The majority of deaths occurred in persons aged 60 and over, and these deaths were concentrated in the age bracket 80 to 99 years (41.9%, or 4,147 deaths). There were 78 deaths of children aged under one year, which accounts for 0.8% of total deaths of the period.
