Weddings and Civil Union Agreements
In October 2025, the number of Civil Union Agreements (CUAs) increased 19.9% year on year to stand at 1,834, according to the Vital Statistics Bulletin, which is published by the National Statistics Institute (INE).
The majority of CUAs (90.7%) were between couples of different sex, while 3.4% of CUAs were between men and 5.8% were between women.
The vital statistics of the month show that there were 5,989 weddings in the country, which is equivalent to a year-on-year increase of 5.8%.
Deaths
In October 2025, there were 10,725 deaths, of which 5,526 (51.5%) were of males and 5,199 (48.5%) were of females. The total number represents a year-on-year increase of 4%. The greatest number of deaths occurred in those aged 60 and over, which was concentrated in the bracket 80 to 99 years (4,708 deaths), which represented 43.9% of total number of deaths. The number of deaths of children under one year stood at 74, which was 0.7% of the total.
Births
In October 2025, there were 12,071 births (51.6% males and 48.4% females), a year-on-year decrease of 2.1%.
According to the mother’s age bracket, the greatest portion of births were in the bracket 30¬ to 34 years (29.3% of total births, or 3,539 lives births). Following was the bracket 25 to 29 years (25.3% of total births, or 3,051 live births).
