Births and marriages decreased in June 2025

In the same period, the number of Civil Union Agreements (CUAs) and deaths increased.

In June, there were 11,853 births (51.1% male and 48.9% female), a decrease of 4.8%, according to the latest Vital Statistics bulletin, which is published by the National Statistics Institute (INE).

According to the mother’s age bracket, the greatest percentage of births in June was in the bracket 30 to 34 years (29%, or 3,438 live births), which was followed by the bracket 25 to 29 years (24.7%, or 2,929 live births).

Marriages and CUAs

Vital statistics for June show that were 3,248 marriages in the country, which is equivalent to a decrease of 4% year on year.

In contrast, the number of CUAs rose 17.7% to stand at 1,591. The vast majority of CUAs (88.6%) were between couples of different sex, while the percentage of CUAs between men was 4.7% and those between women was 6.7%.

Deaths

In June 2025, there were 11,673 deaths. Of these, 6,085 (52.1%) were of males and 5,588 were of females (47.9%). The total number of deaths increased 3.4% year on year.

The greatest number of deaths occurred in those aged 60 and over, most notably in the age bracket 80 to 99 years, which represented 43.8% of the total (5,114 deaths). The number of deaths of those aged under 1 year was 64, which was 0.5% of the total.
