In the same period, the number of Civil Union Agreements increased.
A total of 12,543 births (50.6% males and 49.4% females) were recorded in Chile in May 2025, a fall of 5.6% compared to May 2024, according to the Vital Statistics Bulletin, which is published by the National Statistics Institute (INE). According to the mother’s age bracket, the greatest percentage of births was in the bracket 30 to 34 years (29.8%, or 3,737 live births), which was followed by the bracket 25 to 29 years (25.1%, or 3,150 live births).
Marriages and CUAs
Vital statistics for March show that there were 3,970 marriages in the country, which is equivalent to a fall of 7.5% compared to the same month in 2024. In contrast, the number of Civil Union Agreements (CUAs) rose 1,605, a year-on-year increase of 16.6%. The vast majority of CUAs (90.2%) were between couples of different sex, while the percentage of CUAs between men was 5.2% of the total and those between women was 4.6%.
Deaths
A total of 11,519 deaths were observed in May 2025, 6,015 males (52.2%) and 5,503 females (47.8%). The total number of deaths fell 7.8% year on year.
The greatest number of deaths occurred in those aged 60 and over, most notably in the age bracket 80 to 99 years, which represented 42.9% (4,947 deaths) of the total. The number of deaths of those aged under 1 year was 71, which was 0.6% of the total.
