In the same period, the number of Civil Union Agreements increased.
The total number of marriages registered in Chile in February this year was 7,025, a fall of 6.1% compared to February 2024, according to the Current Vital Statistics Bulletin, which is published by the National Statistics Institute (INE).
In contrast, the number of Civil Union Agreements (CUAs) increased 1,435, a year-on-year rise of 28.7%. The vast majority of CUAs (89.1%) were between persons of different sexes while 4.6% of CUAs were between men and 6.3% were between women.
Births and deaths
Of the total number of births registered in February this year (11,503), 51.3% were of males and 48.7% were of females, a fall of 11.4% compared to February 2024.
According to the age of the mother, the greatest percentage of births were in the bracket 30 to 34 years (29.5%, or 3,399 live births), which was followed by the bracket 25 to 29 years (25.0%, or 2,880 live births).
In February 2025, 8,894 deaths were registered, of which 4,608 were of males (51.8%) and 4,286 were of females (48.2%). The total number of deaths fell 5.1% year on year.
The majority of deaths occurred in those aged 60 and over, and they were concentrated in the age bracket 80 to 99 years (41.1% of total deaths, or 3,657 deaths). The number of deaths of children aged under one year was 81, which is equivalent to 0.9% of the total.
