The number of Civil Union Agreements (CUAs) and deaths increased year on year.
According to the Vital Statistics Bulletin published by the National Statistics Institute (INE), 12,827 births were registered in Chile in January 2025 (51% male and 49% female), a fall of 9.8% compared to January 2024.
According to the mother’s age bracket, the greatest percentage of January births were of mothers aged 30 to 34 years (29.6%, or 3,799 live-born children), which was followed by the bracket 25 to 29 years (25.5%, or 3,273 live-born children).
Marriages and Civil Union Agreements
The figures from vital statistics of January show that there were 6,474 marriages in the Chile, which is equivalent to a fall of 2.6% compared to the same month in 2024.
The number of Civil Union Agreements (CUAs) was 1,498, a year-on-year rise of 30.3%. The vast majority of CUAs were between different sexes (87.7%). The remaining CUAs were between men (4.7%) and between women (7.6%).
Deaths
In January 2025, the number of deaths was 10,194. Of these, 5,211 (51.1%) were male and 4,983 (48.9%) were female. The number of deaths increased 0.9% year on year.
The greatest number of deaths occurred in those aged 60 and over, and the bracket with the greatest proportion of deaths was in ages 80 to 99 years (40.7% of the total, or 4,150 deaths). Deaths of children under the age of 1 stood at 74, which was 0.7% of the total number of deaths.
