The 2024 Census has ended in the 346 communes of the country

1/08/2024
The national director of INE, Ricardo Vicuña, expressed his thanks to the public, the State, and civil society, whose participation enabled the census to be successfully completed. The director gave special thanks to enumerators for their strong commitment and to the public for their positive response to the census.

With the completion of field enumeration in the 346 communes of the country, the National Statistics Institute (INE) ended the 2024 Population and Housing Census yesterday on 31 July.

Referring to the effort made by a group of participants from different areas and to the positive response of the population, the national director of INE, Ricardo Vicuña, observed that the census is a well-conducted process that we should be proud of as a country.

“As on other occasions, we must highlight and appreciate the efforts and commitment of all the census teams, who represent more than thirty thousand people. We especially appreciate the work of the enumerators, who visited every corner of the country and knocked on the doors of more than seven million homes. And we must understand that the census is a commitment to Chile”, he said.

Likewise, the national director of INE noted that a census of this nature requires the collaboration of the entire population, and the positive response is a shared achievement of the multiple State institutions, municipalities, and civil society organizations that have supported the process. “We are especially grateful to the Police (Carabineros) and Investigations Police (PDI), who accompanied us on the journey, and to the Armed Forces, who helped us to reach the farthest corners of the country. We would also like to thank the municipal authorities, who were strategic actors in this task and who encouraged residents to fulfill their civic duty”.

For questions about the process, INE will continue providing information through the site www.censo2024.cl and the Fono Censo 1525. Furthermore, INE would like to remind the public that, in accordance with Law 17.375, all data collected can be used for statistical purposes only, that is, the data cannot and will not be shared with other institutions. Therefore, the responses provided will have no effect on any benefits that people currently receive from the State or on any other matters that may be of concern.
