As planned, census enumerators will revisit territories and homes during the second stage of the census, which will last throughout June.
Eight weeks after the start of the 2024 Population and Housing Census, the National Statistics Institute (INE) has begun the second stage of the survey, which will last throughout June. In the second stage, census enumerators are visiting homes of residents who for various reasons could not be enumerated in the first round.
In the second stage, which began this week in different regions of the country, enumerators are revisiting homes that were not enumerated in the first phase for reasons such as the resident’s absence at the time of the first visit, their inability to respond, or their unwillingness to respond.
In May and June, the remaining 1.7% of the national territory that was not covered in the first round will be enumerated.

At the end of the first stage, more than 900 thousand invitations to respond to the census online were delivered. Although the codes provided will remain active throughout June, residents of homes who have not yet responded will be revisited in the second stage.

Of the more than six million homes that have been visited in the country to date, about 5% have not been able to do the face-to-face interview or have decided not to respond to it.
“We should remember that the Population and Housing Census continues throughout June and that, as planned, we have finished the first census round in the field. We are now beginning the second stage to ensure that all of us can be enumerated”, said Richard Vicuña Poblete, the national director of INE.
